Expansion and manufacturing quadruples in China

Los Angeles-based Armen Living, importer and manufacturer of contemporary furniture, is undergoing a massive expansion in production by quadrupling its manufacturing facilities (Meiyi Furniture Inc.) in China to keep up with augmented demand for their products.

The manufacturer recently took part in a massive re-branding campaign, including changing their name from Armen Art Furniture (AAF). In July 2009, Armen Living completely changed their product line and launched 100 new furniture products, the largest product introduction in the company’s history. This helped the manufacturer regain previously lost market share and brought them back to the top of their price point with a new image. A significant increase in demand from existing and new clients impacted the volume of production and sped up Armen Living’s original plans for expansion.

"The economy presented an interesting opportunity for growth that Armen Living could not resist and resulted in us quadrupling in size in Meiyi," said Kevin Kevonian, the president and owner of Armen Living. The company decided their next big move was to expand Meiyi’s production plant to 200,000 square feet. Kevonian founded the factory, located in Dong Guan in Southern China, as a joint venture in 2004. Kevonian’s joint venture in China has proven extremely valuable for the furniture company as it has not only allowed for control over quality management but also turnaround management of order placement to delivery timings. Armen Living has sustained a substantial growth of 15% each quarter for the past three quarters and its expansion is not only beneficial for the manufacturer but also for Meiyi’s other clients around the world.

After having signed the new lease for the factory in mid-March, Kevonian proclaimed that, "Armen Living is thrilled with the surge in demand even though it was overwhelming at times, this is why we are particularly looking forward to the increased production starting in June". All of the recent growth and expansion has given Armen Living a new edge and exceptional competitive advantage in their price point. Expansions of their capabilities in all product types include case goods, upholstery, occasional, and accents. The manufacturer has huge development forecasts and is continuing to grow and expand at a rapid pace.
